Phone · Headset · Hands free
Fan Cam turns the phone in your pocket into a pair of powered binoculars you wear. Drop it into a headset, and the screen splits into two eyes showing the live camera — magnified, steady, and with both your hands free.
Why put a phone in goggles at all
A phone held at arm's length shakes, and you can only watch it for so long before your arm gives out. Strapped to your face, the same camera becomes something else entirely: a steady, magnified view that leaves both hands free to do whatever you were doing anyway.
Both eyes, one image
The screen splits in two so each eye gets the same magnified picture. Far easier to watch for an hour than squinting into a single lens.
Hands stay free
Nothing to hold up, nothing to keep steady. Your hands are free for your knitting, your soldering iron, or a beer.
Optical first, then digital
Zoom runs from the ultra-wide right through the telephoto and on to 50×, so the early range is true optical magnification and stays sharp.
It records while you watch
Photos and video go straight to your camera roll — so the thing you were watching is also the thing you keep.
Slow-mo replay, in the headset
Stopping a recording offers to play it straight back at half speed, forwards or backwards, without taking the phone out.
A remote you can feel
A pocket Bluetooth remote drives zoom, record and replay by touch, because the screen is sealed inside the headset.
What people actually use it for
Stadiums, arenas and concerts
The seat you could afford is a long way from the thing you came to watch. Zoom in on the play, the pit lane or the stage, keep both hands free, and record the moment you'll want to see again. Turn on the score card and today's games sit quietly in the corner of your view, so you know what's happening in the games you aren't at.
Sewing, knitting and close handwork
Threading a needle, picking up a dropped stitch, following a fine pattern chart — all of it is easier when the work is magnified in front of both eyes and your hands are still free to do it. No hunching over the table, no holding a magnifier in the hand you need for the yarn. And because it records, you can capture the tricky part of a stitch to send to someone, or to watch back slowly yourself.
The back row of a lecture hall
If you're sitting where the board is a blur, Fan Cam pulls it back into focus — and records the lecture at the same time, so the diagram you couldn't quite copy down is waiting for you afterwards. Watching and capturing are the same action, which means you can listen instead of scribbling. Slow-mo replay is there for the step the lecturer went through too quickly.
Fine detail work, repair and inspection
Painting miniatures, board-level electronics, engine work, machinery you'd rather not put your face next to. The same magnified hands-free view does the job, and because it's recording throughout, you end up with proof of a fault before the repair and a reference for how it all came apart.
Birds, wildlife and the far end of the garden
The classic pair of binoculars, except you aren't holding it up and it keeps a copy of everything you saw. Watch a bird settle without your arms shaking, and still have the footage afterwards to work out what it was.
Recommended equipment
Fan Cam runs on the phone you already own, but it needs a headset that fits it and something to press. This is the kit we use.
VR headset
It has the perfect cut-out for a large screen phone, and it works with your phone. Take the case off if it doesn't fit, or use a thin phone case.

More from us
Fan Cam is one of a small family of camera apps we build. All of them — this one included — are sponsored by Deskflags.com, our main company.
Ghost Pro Max
A paranormal investigation camera for phones. Full-spectrum style effects, torch and strobe control, and everything recorded as you go, so an investigation ends with footage rather than a story.
Video Scrubber Pro
Frame-accurate scrubbing for video you have already shot. Step through a clip one frame at a time and pull out the exact moment you wanted — the frame that went past too quickly to catch live.
